Please join us for a conversation with journalists Jim DeRogatis, Mary Mitchell and Maudlyne Ihejirika as they discuss the recently released second part of the Lifetime documentary series, Surviving R. Kelly: The Reckoning.

 

In 2000 Sun Times reporter Jim DeRogatis broke the story of the sexual abuse allegations against R. Kelly, and has since published a book detailing the investigation, entitled “Soulless:  The Case Against R. Kelly.”

Mary Mitchell is a Sun-Times columnist and Editorial Board member who has written for almost 3 decades about race relations and discrimination, criminal and social justice issues and domestic violence.  In 2000, she investigated Kelly's misdeeds with DeRogatis and other Sun-Times staffers, writing a series of of stories, including columns on the Black community's response.

Maudlyne Ihejirika is an award-winning urban affairs reporter with the Chicago Sun-Times. She’s president of the Chicago Journalists Association and the National Association of Black Journalists Chicago.

 

Doors open at 6:00 pm with discussion beginning at 6:30 pm.
