From the 1980s to the 2010s, consumer-grade videotape and cameras were made available, and millions of people shot many hours of footage - from birthday celebrations to family vacations to their own home epics. This material is, in many homes, trapped on these old tapes, which now often reside in closets, basements, and storage bins, with no easy way to view them.

In this workshop, Dan Erdman, video archivist at Media Burn, will show you how to best care for your old videotape collections, and how best to watch the footage you shot years ago. You'll learn how to identify and prioritize your videos, understand the dangers of tape decay, and discover your options for digitizing and storing the material on your tapes for long-term access.

This workshop is intended for anyone who shot their own footage on videotape from the 1980s to the 2010s, and open to all. No special technical knowledge is required, and questions of any kind are encouraged.
